The proposal presents the reintegration of three ice factories, deserted for many years, and located in the center of Athens, in a neighborhood of Ano Patissia. The fact that the area of the ice factories belongs to one of the most densely built parts of the urban fabric, where unsatisfactory environmental conditions prevail and lots of socioeconomical problems continue to pile up, make the proposed intervention critical for the future of the area, especially if it adopts the principles of sustainable development.

The proposed solution makes a case for the reuse of the industrial buildings, the promotion of the industrial heritage of the Patission district, and at the same time an upgrading of public space which will guarantee unity and aim at the creation of an organic whole. The goal is the redefinition of until recently “urban voids”, their reintegration in the urban fabric and their transformation into a center of a fully vivid area. The role that the outdoor space is going to play is valued as highly as the role of the industrial buildings. Its parts will be incorporated in a network, in order to maximize its positive impact at a functional, aesthetical and environmental level.
